GRP ceilings against aluminium: the lifecycle view

Most ceiling decisions are made at the quotation line. For a hospital near the coast, that line is the least reliable part of the comparison.
What corrodes, and where
Aluminium ceilings resist corrosion well in dry interiors. In a building with chlorinated cleaning chemistry, high humidity, or salt air, the coating and the cut edges are where it starts.
GRP is a composite: there is no metal to corrode, water absorption is 0.3%, and it resists strong acids and alkalis. In a hospital kitchen, a pool hall or a coastal lab, that is the difference between a ten-year and a twenty-five-year ceiling.
Fire performance without the metal
Our GRP antibacterial ceiling is classified A2-S2,d0,t0 — limited combustibility, limited smoke, no burning droplets. That classification is what a consultant needs for an escape route, and it is not achieved by every composite panel.
Demountability is a cost line
A ceiling in a hospital is opened regularly: above it sit valves, dampers, cables and ducts. A panel that comes down and goes back without damage is a maintenance saving every year.
Our GRP panels demount on a concealed triangular grid and are rated for repeated removal. Aluminium tiles deform at the edge after a few cycles, and then the whole grid looks tired.

FAQ
Does GRP carry CE marking?
No. CE marking and Korean fire certification apply to our glass-fibre acoustic ceiling only.
Is GRP heavier than aluminium?
Per square metre it is heavier than a thin aluminium tile, so the grid and hangers must be specified for the load — we supply the load data with the panel.
Can it be used outside?
The panel is specified for interior and semi-exterior service; for fully exposed façades we would quote a different product.
