Refurbishment with the ward still running
2026-11-09
A hospital cannot empty a ward for six weeks. That single constraint rules out wet trades, long adhesive cure times and any system that needs the ceiling down for the whole floor.
Sequence before specification
Split the floor plate into zones that can be isolated with a temporary partition, and complete one zone at a time: strip, prepare, install, cure, hand over.
The material has to support that sequence — a product with a 24-hour adhesive cure and a welded seam cannot be handed back the same night.
Dry-fixed walls and ceilings
Our medical clean panel and GRP ceiling are both dry-fixed on concealed systems: no wet trades, no site sealing, and panels that can be removed later for access.
That is what makes a night-shift programme possible: the noisy, dusty work is limited to panel removal, and installation is assembly rather than construction.
Containment is part of the specification
Dust containment, negative pressure in the work zone and a defined route for materials are not contractor extras; they are the difference between an open ward and an outbreak.
Ask any supplier whether their system can be installed with the zone sealed and whether panels can be cut outside the clinical area.
| Constraint | Wet trades | Dry-fixed system |
|---|---|---|
| Cure time | 24–72 hours | Nil |
| Dust | High | Low, cut off-site |
| Access to services | Wall opened later | Panel removed |
| Night work | Limited | Feasible |
| Ward closure | Usually required | Phased, avoidable |
FAQ
Can flooring be laid over existing vinyl?
Only if the existing floor is sound and well bonded; otherwise the new floor inherits the old failure. Test adhesion first.
How much area per night?
Typically 60–120 m² per shift for sheet flooring with a small crew, depending on preparation, not on the product.
Do you supply method statements?
Yes — installation method statements and cure schedules are supplied with the order.
Tell us the zone and the hours, and we will send a phasing plan
Night work, containment, handover per zone.
